Last Light on the Ridge — A Minute With Nature

He came up over the ridge just as the light was going, and stood there long enough for me to get the camera up.

I've lived in the Valley of the Moon long enough to know this happens most evenings, somewhere, whether or not anybody's watching. That's most of what I've learned about photographing wildlife — you don't find the moment, you're just occasionally present for it.

No narration. No music. A minute of last light and an animal who has no idea he's the subject of anything.

This is why the nature films live in the same room as the paintings. A gallery is quiet. So is a ridge at dusk. They ask the same thing of you.
